Oh Cali (I'm pretty sure there's another blog titled this too. Pretty sure there will be more!)...

The circus and I were enjoying Burger King (lazy mom's dinner, I'll admit it) and "17 Again". It felt good to curl up with food and a good movie with them. But the call of a nice summer evening outside was too much for Cali and Tayler and they headed out to play with neighbors.
Suddenly I hear Cali screaming bloody murder! We rush out the garage door which is next to the TV room to find her DRENCHED, from head to toe. Cali, what in the world happened?
Cali wanted to run in the sprinklers and tried to turn the grass sprinklers on. But instead of turning on the key in the ground that runs the secondary irrigation water, which the sprinklers are hooked up to, she turned the spigot next to the front porch which is fresh water. Unbeknownst to Cali, this spigot had a hose and sprinkler attached to it, and upon turning the spigot on, the sprinkler on the end of the hose began spraying the front porch... and Cali. Cue in bloody murder screaming.
Well I sure didn't want to go into all that cold water to turn it off. Cas, go get your umbrella... Casidee to my rescue!
Of course, Cali wasn't done with me yet. That would have been too simple. Cali has a lot of energy, and that's putting it mildly. I was ushering them down the hallway to bed, when Cali spies the open door to the hallway closet. Casidee neglected to close it when she fetched the umbrella. In a surge of... well I have no idea what it was a surge of... energy? Cali jumps in the air, grabs the doorknob with both hands and hangs. *Crack*. Cali breaks the bottom hinge of the door from the door frame. I had a picture of this, but apparently I deleted it. Oops. It got me thinking of some thing someone said to me on facebook after detailing another some sort of thing I had to learn how to fix: "The things we get to learn when we have no other choice." I decided to share the fixing process, just in case any of you have a rambunxious child who pulls a door hinge away from the frame :).
First you need to drill the holes that the screw left behind to make sure they're long enough for the filler-in thingies (hey, I'm a girl. I don't know what all this stuff is called, I just know how to use it.) Pick a bit size (luckily I asked for a drill and a drill set for Christmas one year. I've used it so much, it's become one of my most valued possessions around the house) that's the same size as the hole. I didn't want to make the hole too big for the screw, I just wanted to make it long enough for the filler. This is a filler-in thingy. They come in lots of sizes and colors. I picked the one closest to the size of the hole the screw left (but you want it to be slightly bigger because if it slides right in, it will slide right out, and that doesn't help you much when you want to screw to stay in the wall).
Put the filler-in thingy against the hole and gently hammer it in. I say gently because they're kind of wimpy and they'll bend funny and won't go in the hole if you hammer them too hard. I learned that the hard way. The point of these is to give new traction for a screw where the wall has been stripped (it also gives a screw reinforcement if you're hanging some thing a little heavier, and you're not screwing into a stud.)
Change my bit to my handy dandy Phillip's head...
Hold the door and hinge so the screws can go back into their newly reinforced holes and drill the screw in. This would have been a ton easier with a second person to hold the door while I managed the screw and drill, but totally do-able and I did just fine.Ta-da! The hinge is back on, and the door works just fine.

You are superwomen! I should start fixing things around my house instead of waiting for my hubby, because let's face it, it may take awhile.

Oh yeah! As a mother of two boys, I am more than acquainted with those "filler thingies" (aka anchors). Sounds like you've got your hands full with Cali. Everyone deserves at least one:)
