Question of the day

I'm still here. And I have a question to throw out to all my blogger friends. I'm thinking about private vs. public blog and I want to know what your take on it is? I was going to post on the most recent change in my life, but realized I don't want the whole world to know about it, as it pertains to my kids. But will going private keep people out that I want to read my blog? Like my parents? SO... those of you who have thought about it... and even done it... how'd it go?

I worry about being public sometimes, but I think a ton of people read our blogs that we don't know about. I know I read some peoples we went to school with, but would be too embarassed to ask for invite. Either way I really enjoy yours and want to be invited incase you do go private.

I tend to fall off the wagon of people who are private. I love catching up with all your adventures. I don't do private but I don't allow annoymous comments. And not everyone is savvy to get the whole login process (epecially grandparents). Whatever you choose let me in!

Once I got a comment from some random person who I have no clue who they are, I made the switch. If it was just me and Zach on there, I wouldn't care, but it makes me nervous having strangers reading about my baby. I guess it depends how much of your life you want to write about.

Oh, that is a tough one! Man, I don't know... Maybe if it is something personal and only want a few people to know about it... send out an email rather than blogging about it??? I don't know...

We went private because with Jimmy's deployment it's can be a safety issue. I think I prefer to not be private but it just depends on the content that you are posting I guess. Either way works fine. You can always add people and let them see your blog if they request it.

I was a protective Mom when it came to my babies and my 'world' so I went private but then found out people can still 'get in' so I quit all around...I love your blog and I dig you so if you choose...I pray there is room for me. They limit the number of "invites' you can send out too btw for private...

I'm like Took and tend to stop reading private blogs because of the log-in thing. I'm also like Erin and read lots of people's that we went to school with but am too afraid to say hi to. I also feel sad that I can't say hi to others like Audrey because she has a private blog. So really, there is no winning with me, right? I completely understand wanting to protect your kids though so it's a hard decision to make. Either way, I want to keep reading. Your insight has helped me more than you know.

Im thinking that if your worried about your girls, that you should go private. Your girls are the most important thing you've got!! If your readers really want to know whats going on in your life, they'll make an effort to log in to read it so you can make it private. But thats just my take on the whole private issue... Hope all is ok!

You can set your blog up to be open to public but no one can search for it using a search engine, they have to know the address or know one of your friends who have your link on their blog. I don't know what you should do. I noticed when I went private for a few months no one posted on my blog anymore because most of them use the google reader and when you are private, the google reader doesn't update anymore. You might get lonely for some of your friends. I haven't heard of a bad experience yet about having a public blog. People talk about what could happen but does it really happen? But with you and four girls, maybe it's good to protect them. I can't wait to hear what is new though. I hope you share soon...
