The perfect day

The day was upper 80s and we had big plans for the day. We met up with Sam and his two girls, and Megan and Aaron and their new baby Braxton. Of course we had some issues with West's ex this time (standing at her front door in Murray 20 min. after talking to her. She calls "where are you?" "Uh, standing at your front door, where are YOU?" Oh... at her boyfriends back in Sandy. She couldn't have mentioned that 20 min. earlier when West talked to her?), but after that hitch the day was absolutely perfect in my book. We arrived at Antelope Island and pulled out our lunches, sprayed on our sunblock and when the food was gone, we traipsed down to the water.
This was something I figured the kids needed to do at least once in their childhood. After all, so much of our state and culture and history deals with this great mass of salt water sitting in the middle of our state. We smell it on stormy days and get our salt for dinner from it. The kids needed to see it first hand. They were amazed by the salty foam: And the water could not have been a more comfortable temperature. It felt so silky soft on my skin (all the salt? It was like being at a spa). The rocks in the water were all so flat it wasn't hard to find some to skip. Tayler picked up a new skill :) And of course, the kids discovered what it is to float in the Great Salt Lake. "MOM!! I'm not touching the bottom and I'm FLOATING!!" They were shocked and amazed. They dug and played and floated and skipped rocks. And chased brine flies. After awhile though all that salt does dry to the skin, caking everyone in a white film, and it gets itchy itchy. So we hiked back up the beach and rinsed off in the fresh water showers. We asked the rangers where we should go to show the kids the buffalo. The big bulls were in one directions, the rest of the heard in the other... so we did both. Thus bull was as big as our SUV! We went home with KFC, and called some neighbor friends to join our group at the park for some baseball. SO MUCH FUN.
After that we all just chilled on the grass of the park while the kids ran amok. We took turns holding Braxton and just generally enjoying the the mild evening with good friends.
