California Dreamin' on such a Winter's Day... Day 1 and 2
The deal about us taking vacations longer than a weekend is that I take way too many pictures to put on a single post about it. So now I get to write novels on our trip to justify the 157 pictures I took. The day before we left (a Monday) was completely insane. We both worked a full day, my parents had been in town all weekend for Bill's surprise party and some doctor's appointments. We had just gotten the circus back from ex's and I was exhausted from trying to make sure everything at work was finished for me to be able to leave. I was making dinner and going through six suitcases counting socks and checking for swimming suits. My head was heavy and with all the efforts it was taking to go on this vacation, I was ready to just get going with it. As we ushered the circus to bed, Sean wrapped his arms around my waist and started jumping up and down with me in his arms, "I wish we could just go RIGHT NOW!" He exclaimed. I'm right there with ya buddy! Tuesday we managed through one more day of work. When I pulled up at the house the entire circus was on the front lawn waiting for me. I've never been greeted with such cheers! All they needed to leave on their California trip was... me! We hit the road with a box of Little Caesar's pizza and started at least the first half of our drive. We'd be stopping in St. George to camp out for the night with Grandma and Grandpa (who had just left our house that morning). Our first adventure happened at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. For some unknown reason the gas station was raising ducks for a petting zoo and let the circus pet them, as long as they promised to wash their hands after.
We made it safe and sound to the parentals house and went straight to bed. The next morning we went to breakfast with them before heading on our way to California.
The whole reason this trip even evolved was for the marine base in Twenty-nine Palms, California. West's cousin is stationed there and invited us to their "Jane Wayne Day", which essentially is a family day. Welcome to Twenty-nine Palms. The middle of nowhere California. Already 90 degrees and still only in the end of March. Can you imagine that place in July or August?
When we checked in at the hotel I asked if the pool was indoor or outdoor. I was told both. So I was imagining a cool pool that went under the wall. Or at the very lamest, two pools.
I don't know, if you ask me, I would describe this as an outdoor pool, partially covered. "Both" ha ha.

We went to West's cousin's house for dinner where Nate and Kay where sweet and gracious and made a pot load of tacos. Kay also bought a giant box of assorted ice cream. Which of course was a big hit with their son. Anyone want a hug?
It was nice, after all the driving, to just relax and hang out. We showed the kids what a Joshua Tree was, and West saw some sand dunes that made him start drooling. We passed an old train station and almost got lost twice out an the back roads of the Mojave Desert, but just almost. We managed to pick the right way both times. (West: "let's ask them" pointing to an older couple walking on the side of the road. Me, noticing their car license plate read Colorado thought they wouldn't know much more than we did, but when they're general hunch matched my general hunch, I took it as gold and off we went). I will say that I love Kay. She is the best non sister-in-law a girl could ask for. Stay tuned for day three of this trip. There's lots of pictures of us in Marine gear, shooting big guns, playing on tanks and being more dirty and exhausted than I have been for a long time. It was awesome.
